Hodnet FC V Newport Town - 06/03/10
It only took 9 minutes for the deadlock to be broken with Neport putting Hodnet under presure straight from the kick-off. There hard work was rewarded with a well taken goal by Martin Quinn after Hodnet failed to clear their lines from a corner. Newport became victims of their own pressure when a mistake in Defence gave Hodnet the chance they were struggling to create themselves, when Neil Evans recieved the ball with just the goalkeeper to beat he slotted home from just in side the 6 yd box to bring the game to 1-1. Newport went in at half time wondering if it was going to be one of those days, Jeremy Harman Had struck the post twice in a twenty minute spell that should have seen Newport leading at half time by at least 3-0.
In the second half Hodnet came out the more brighter of the two and within the first fifteen minutes had worked the Newport goalkeeper more work than the whole of the first half. Both teams seemed to loose there way a bit in the second half, and has time went on Newport became more and more frustrated which ended with several yellow cards. At the start of Extra time Hodnet were lucky not to conceed as they made a goal line clearance to keep the scores level, alas this was not to last and 6 minutes later Jeremy Harman had the ball in the back of the net after recieving a pass from Paul Quinn, Harman rode the challenge of Tom Minshall to slot the ball past a stranded goalkeeper. The game never produced much more interms of goals until the last two minutes of extra time when Hodnets pressure for the equalizer earned them a free kick on the edge of the 18 yd box. Newport struggled to clear from the free kick and as the ball came free a Hodnet player struck the ball aiming for the top left corner, the Goalkeeper managed to get a hand on it but this only pushed it onto the underside of the crossbar before it hit the back of the net came back out and a Newport palyer cleared it off the line. The Goal was disallowed for an infringement in the Box. The game finished 1-2 in extra time for Newport. Click Here
Church Stretton ran out easy winners in the end with Wrockwardinewood running out of ideas. First 20 minutes belong to wrockwardine with a constant push on goal and some nice football getting their reward when Mick Evans scored the opener, this seemed to wake Church stretton up as they slowly took charge of the game, making it one all at half time. In the second half Stretton carried on where they left off and started to dominate the game with wrockwardine showing on the odd occassion what they were capable of doing. The final scored ended with Stretton running out 4-2 winners with goals from Mark & Dave Jarrod, Matty pearce and Campbell Nailer.
